Rx Bandits at the Axis Tonight – Halloween

October 31, 2006 at 9:29 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | 1 Comment

Happy f’n Halloween. And it is just that: a happy Halloween. Why? Becuase Rx Bandits are rocking the Axis tonight. They’re amazing live. Don’t miss this one. I, unfortunately will miss this one, because I am broke. I have a good (but only medicore quality) live version of their song “Only For The Night” off their latest release “…And the Battle Begun.” So, if you can’t make the show, just listen to this, and cry wishing you could.

Live Versions of New Weakerthans Songs

Although they haven’t released an album in over 3 years, the band who gave this blog its name does have some new material. I recently obtained a recording of The Weakerthans playing in Heidelberg, Germany in August on their most recent tour. I’ve posted two new songs here; “Sun in an Empty Room” and “Night Windows.” Both are great tunes, and the sound quality is excellent.

New Album Review

Head on over to the album review section or click the link on the right column for a review of Kevin Devine’s first major label release entitled Put Your Ghost To Rest. The review was not written by myslef but instead my fellow colleague here at A Shiny New Machine, Chris, who’s opinion on albums I value dearly. After my own listen of the album I would mostly agree with him, it’s a damn good album which I recommend you all picking up. On more of a personal note I would just like to add a congratulations to Kevin for being picked up by a major label, most “indie” fans would complain and say he’s selling out but I’ve been listening to his music since my friend Jake Cowan lent me Make The Clocks Move when it was first released and I couldn’t be happier for the guy. Anyway , check out some of these tracks, **and** if you are in the Boston area don’t forget to check out Mr. Devine at the Paradise Rock Club this Sunday the 29th.

First Post Ever!

Alright Ladies and Gents, this is our first post on the Shiny New Machine and in doing so I will try and break down what we’re all about here. I am going to start by saying this is an experiment in every sense of the word. Although Chris and I both have superb plans for the future of this site you’re going to have to bear with us – we are both full-time students and are also employed part-time @ toptensources.com. If you’re looking for credentials I wouldn’t say we have zero (we used to play in a band together) but together Chris and I talk about music A LOT so we figure why not share our views with the rest of the world, if it comes out as jibber jabber all the better. One thing about blogs that is great is the way readers can post replies and so if any of you out there reading this have any great ideas or have demos you would like us to hear, I cannot stress enough that both Chris and I love hearing new music and so we encourage our readers to e-mail us with any concerns and we promise to get back to you ASAP – ashinynewmachine AT gmail.com.

Our plan is be posting roughly every other day on what ever has peaked our interest at the time (most likely music related). We also plan on having a concert review page as well as an album review page. The concert review page will only be updated when one of us goes to a concert and we would like to have a new album review up ever other week. I have asked my good friend Dave (who actually has experience writing reviews) to also help out when he can with posting some reviews and he gladly accepted the offer. Whether these plans work out or not we cannot tell but hopefully this page will blossom beautifully over the next couple months.
