Only 56 Days till the New Weakerthans Album Comes Out

July 31, 2007 at 11:08 pm | Posted in mp3, Music, The Weakerthans | 4 Comments

Originally my plan was to wait until the actual date the album comes out to pick it up. I was going to see if I had the will power to wait for what will most likely be the best album of 2007. There is just something about picking up an album in a record store on a release date that you’ve been anticipating for months that simply cannot be matched by simply downloading it as soon as your friend instant messages you with “DUDE!!! NEW WEAKERTHANS JUST LEAKED! OINK THAT SHIT RIGHT NOW!”. But after hearing the studio version of “Night Windows” on Stereogum, I’ve realized that I just don’t have it in me to wait that long.

I definitely will still go to a record store on September 25 and pick up a tangible copy of Reunion Tour, but I will already be aware of how much the album rocks. So instead of counting down the days to the release date, I’ll just remain on the edge of my seat waiting for that life-changing instant message.

For now, be sure to check out the live versions of some of the new Weakerthans songs off the upcoming album that I’ve re-posted (for maybe the 12th time) below. Also, check out this in-studio video with a few seconds from every song on the album.

Lastly, be sure to stayed tuned as I plan to do at least one more post in the next couple days, and hopefully start posting regularly again.

The Weakerthans have Finished Record #4

May 2, 2007 at 12:05 am | Posted in mp3, Music I Love, The Weakerthans | 4 Comments

My excitement simply cannot be contained. I read today that The Weakerthans have finished recording their fourth album which is tentatively titled Reunion Tour. This record is promised to be the band’s “most experimental”, complete with “ambient stuff, tape loops, and some more keyboard than before”. The article appeared in Winnipeg’s Uptown Magazine, and you can read the whole thing here.

This seems to be a different direction for the usually folk-rocky band, but I love everything they’ve put out before and I trust in the band’s talent. Also, with the promise of studio versions a few (awesome) unreleased songs they’ve been touring with, I don’t think I’ll be disappointed.

In other news – I’m lazy and never update this site. My world’s been sort of hectic the past few weeks (finals, moving, etc.) so posts has been sparse and some promises have been broken (the Cassino album review is coming). Once I get myself all organized I’ll be back on track. For now enjoy these live versions of a few new Weakerthans tracks, and start getting pumped about Reunion Tour.

Live Versions of New Weakerthans Songs

Although they haven’t released an album in over 3 years, the band who gave this blog its name does have some new material. I recently obtained a recording of The Weakerthans playing in Heidelberg, Germany in August on their most recent tour. I’ve posted two new songs here; “Sun in an Empty Room” and “Night Windows.” Both are great tunes, and the sound quality is excellent.
